Dr. Kamo is an optometrist focused on specialty contact lenses, irregular corneas, and myopia management. Training began at the University of California, Irvine, continued through Southern California College of Optometry, and concluded with residency training in cornea and contact lens care at UC Berkeley. Day-to-day practice blends scleral lens fitting, irregular-cornea contact lens care, myopia control, and dry eye disease management with primary eye care.
Dr. Kamo has always enjoyed caring for others, going back to helping a younger sister and assisting grandparents as a child, with interest in optometry developing through working with and shadowing a close family friend in the profession. Undergraduate study at the University of California, Irvine led to a Bachelor of Science earned Summa Cum Laude, followed by a Doctor of Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry. After optometry school, Dr. Kamo completed a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at the University of California, Berkeley, building advanced clinical skill in specialty lens fitting and irregular-cornea management. That training underpins a daily practice that includes scleral lens fitting, contact lens care for irregular corneas, myopia management and myopia control, dry eye disease management, and primary eye care.
Dr. Kamo was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2025. During optometry school and residency, Dr. Kamo presented and published clinical work on higher-order aberrations in scleral lens wear, multifocal scleral lenses for pathological myopia, and a case report on anchoring bias in keratoconus diagnosis, with presentations at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, the American Academy of Optometry, the University of California, San Francisco, and VA Fresno. Earlier honors include the Richard W. Baker Contact Lens Award, the CooperVision Contact Lens Award, the Asian American Optometric Society Scholarship, and multiple named scholarships from Southern California College of Optometry. As a STAPLE Soft Toric and Presbyopic Lens Education Program preceptor, Dr. Kamo also teaches current optometry students at Southern California College of Optometry.
Born and raised in Orange County, Dr. Kamo stays close to the local community and to an active lifestyle that includes basketball, indoor and beach volleyball, hiking, and pilates. Coaching basketball and volleyball is part of that mix, alongside weekend matcha shop visits, breakfast burrito hunts, and trail outings with a dog named Kiwi. A long-running personal tradition, dating back to teenage years, pairs Shin Ramyun with the latest anime episodes after a late-night practice. The same warmth carries into the exam room, where Dr. Kamo enjoys the ability to make a significant impact through relatively small interventions.
