While some people prefer wearing glasses or contact lenses, others may find these vision therapy devices a little too inconvenient. Thankfully, there is a way to correct your vision almost to ideal levels without the need for glasses and lenses. LASIK is a fairly new procedure that more and more patients are getting to eliminate their dependence on other vision correction solutions.
As with any new technology, there are quite a few things many people still don’t understand about LASIK surgery.
Many vision therapy and correction options work by fixing minor imperfections found in the eyes. LASIK uses lasers to carry out these fixes. However, despite its promise, LASIK may not be the right solution for some people. Always consult with your doctor to get a comprehensive eye exam and to see if you can be a candidate for LASIK surgery.
No medical procedure is 100% risk-free; however, LASIK surgery is incredibly safe. The risk of developing problems post-operation is less than 1%. In fact, the success rate of LASIK is at a whopping 90%, with more than 80% of patients reporting that they are “satisfied” with the results of their surgery.
LASIK is a quick outpatient procedure. Patients recover within an hour after the surgery. Some care like vision therapy or the use of scleral lenses may be necessary to ease your eyes. After which, your vision is usually immediately clearer. In most cases, LASIK is able to correct your eyes to 20/20, but a small percentage might get 20/40. You may need someone to help you drive home back from the surgery, but your eyes will be fine, and you won’t have to miss a day of work.
