What Is Trigeminal Dysphoria?

If you’re experiencing headaches or dizziness resulting from poor vision, your first step should always be to consult with a professional eye doctor. If your symptoms are accompanied by dry eyes, eye strain and neck and shoulder pain, then you may be suffering from trigeminal dysphoria.

Trigeminal dysphoria is an umbrella term used to describe common eye-related ailments felt by many people, particularly those that look at digital screens for prolonged periods. These symptoms are not new and have been called many other names in the past.

What Is Trigeminal Dysphoria?

Some symptoms of trigeminal dysphoria can be addressed by vision therapy. The symptoms of this disorder have been documented under different names throughout history. These names include asthenopia, convergence insufficiency and fixation disparity, among others. In a nutshell, this eye condition can be characterized by binocular misalignment between your two eyes.

What Causes Trigeminal Dysphoria?

Researchers have discovered that digital screen users show higher rates of trigeminal dysphoria symptoms than other people. Looking at screens uses near-vision, which can make nearsighted misalignment more common, a symptom of trigeminal dysphoria. It’s been shown that over 65% of adults suffer from one or more of the known symptoms of this condition.
