If they are between 6 and 12 years of age, they may be eligible to take part in the KIND study.
The KIND study is being conducted to evaluate how effective and safe a type of eye glass lens called DG1 is to slow myopia (nearsighted) progression in children.
Each child will either be provided a pair of standard glasses or glasses with the DG1 lens.
Be 6 to 12 years old
Have a diagnosis of myopia (nearsightedness)
Not have received prior treatment for myopia control or contact lens wear
Be able to wear glasses for an average of 10 hours per day
Each child will participate in the study for 48 months with a treatment period of 36 months and a rebound* evaluation period of 12 months.
Approximately 240 children with myopia aged 6 to 12 years old will take part in the KIND study.
During the active treatment period your child will visit the study doctor's office at least three times each year. The scheduled visits will include:
In-person lens delivery visits during which your child will receive their glasses, and any adjustments will be made to make sure they fit and are positioned correctly. These visits will also include vision tests.
In-person visits that occur every six months during which your child will undergo vision tests and will be asked about their experience with the glasses.
Telephone calls that occur in between in-person visits to check how your child is doing with the glasses.
For the rebound evaluation all children will wear single vision lenses. This is to evaluate if any effects of the DG1 lens last in the long-term.
* Rebound evaluation refers to the assessment of what happens to a condition when treatment is stopped.
The study provided eyeglasses and exams are included at no cost to you.
Participation is voluntary and your child may withdraw from the study at any point.
