Dr. Lam thrives on connecting with patients and helping them overcome challenges. She especially loves working with kids because their joy is contagious! Designing creative, engaging vision therapy activities and seeing her patients succeed are what make her day.
Dr. Valerie is a distinguished optometrist who earned her Doctorate of Optometry, Magna Cum Laude, from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University.
She completed a residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the same institution and is a proud alumna of the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Valerie holds fellowship credentials with the American Academy of Optometry and the Optometric Vision Development & Rehabilitation Association, reflecting her expertise and commitment to advancing vision care.
Dr. Lam is passionate about helping children improve their vision and learning through non-surgical solutions like Vision Therapy, using fun, personalized exercises to address issues such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, and tracking problems. With a doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry and residency in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy, she brings a wealth of experience, including work with underserved communities, to provide compassionate, effective eye care.

Dr. Lam is affiliated with the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association, Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, Treehouse Eyes, Orange County Optometric Society, California Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Orange County Concussion Consortium, and the Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment Society. She has served as the Organizer of the Orange County Concussion Consortium.
Dr. Valerie Lam co-authored a poster presentation titled “Optical Solutions for a Patient with Retinally Induced Aniseikonia” with Rebekah Louie, O.D., and Ray Chu, O.D., M.S.
Dr. Lam delivers numerous lectures annually, both in person and online, sharing her expertise on vision care and therapy.
She was recognized for her Senior Research Capstone Project.
Dr. Valerie Lam is a proud mother of three children she loves and adores and is happily married to her husband, whom she has known since the age of two. She enjoys cooking, traveling, biking, dancing, and creating art.
She also discovered a hidden talent for becoming a “nerdy eye doctor” YouTube star, sharing her passion for vision care with a wide audience.
Dr. Lam gives back through mission trips, volunteering at the Special Olympics, and mentoring future optometrists. She’s also a guest speaker at optometry schools, sharing her passion and inspiring others to make a difference.
Dr. Lam married her childhood best friend, a love story that began when they first met at the age of two. Together, they are raising three adorable children who keep their lives filled with joy and adventure. When she’s not at work,
Dr. Lam can often be found in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes, cheering enthusiastically at her kids’ sports practices, or organizing fun-filled playdates at the park. She cherishes every moment of being a mom, finding balance between her thriving career and the lively energy of her family life.
