Our goal at Insight Vision Center Optometry is to give you greater Insight into your vision as well as the most comprehensive and up-to-date medical treatment. Our services include treatment and management for the following eye conditions:
Myopia – also known as nearsightedness. Distant objects appear blurry, while close objects appear clear. This condition often rapidly accelerates in young kids especially when diagnosed at a young age. This is called myopia progression.
Hyperopia – also known as farsightedness. By definition, it is explained that near objects appear more blurry, while distant objects appear clearer. Clinically however, we more often see hyperopia causing eye strain, fatigue, or headaches associated with near work.
Astigmatism – blurred vision caused by an irregular curvature or oblong shape of the cornea and/or lens of the eye. Astigmatism is often the reason you may see shadows or halos around objects. It is common to have astigmatism concurrently with myopia or hyperopia.
Presbyopia – Difficulty with near focus and the start of needing reading glasses, usually onsets between 40 and 50 years of age.
Cataract – A clouding of the crystalline lens (located inside the eye) which causes blurred vision which is uncorrectable with glasses. When severe enough, surgical removal may be recommended for best clarity.
Glaucoma – A condition which damages the optic nerve of the eye causing a loss of peripheral vision. High eye pressure, a large cup to disc ratio, and a positive family history are often risk factors.
Stye – The official name is a hordeolum. A stye is an inflamed bump that develops from a clogged oil gland of the eyelid.
Strabismus – A crossed or wandering eye. Strabismus is the official term for a “lazy” eye due to the fact that the eye does not point straight.
Macular degeneration – An eye disease that causes a breakdown in the integrity of the macula (the most central portion of the retina responsible for your center vision). It is often age-related and comes in 2 forms, wet and dry.
Pinguecula/pterygium – An abnormal growth of tissue on the conjunctiva often caused by wind or excessive UV exposure. Often has the appearance of “yellow bumps” on the eye. It can either grow on the white part of the eye (pinguecula) or can start to encroach and grow onto the cornea (pterygium).
Dry Eyes is a common condition where the eyes cannot produce enough tears or the tears are too quick to evaporate. This causes the delicate surface of the eye to dry out, causing your eyes to turn red, burn, or feel sandy and irritated.
Red Eye/Pink Eye – An eye infection that is typically caused by a virus or bacteria. Immediate treatment should be initiated as these conditions can be very contagious and can lead to complications if not handled right away.
Amblyopia – Another form of “lazy eye” where the vision in one or both eyes are not correctable to 20/20 even with the best glasses prescription. This is due to a poor neural development between that eye and the brain. It commonly develops when the eyes have unequal prescriptions or if there is a crossed/wandering eye. In many cases it can be improved or even fully resolved with proper treatment and vision therapy.
Keratoconus – a medical condition where the cornea (the clear layer on the front of the eye) thins and bulges resulting in a cone-shaped eye surface. Because of the irregular shape of the cornea, vision is very blurry and distorted and often is not correctable with glasses. Treatment may include special contact lenses and/or surgery.
