Small Signs of Hidden Vision Problems in Children

Having healthy eyesight is important for your child’s physical, mental and social growth. This is why having regular eye exams is important. There are times that parents can easily spot if their kids have vision problems. However, there are cases when vision problems may be more difficult to spot.

Poor Attention Span

You might notice that your child quickly loses interest in activities, work or games that require heavy eye usage for a long period of time. It could be a sign that your child has an underlying vision problem. Remember that studying and participating in sports require strong vision. Having these problems could affect your child’s performance down the road.

Tilting Their Head to the Side

If your children regularly tip their head sideways when looking at something that’s in front of them, your eye doctor might say that they have a refractive error. Your children are turning their head so that they can see easier. This can affect their performance in school as well as their daily living. We recommend having regular eye exams to ensure their eye health is in a good state.

Regular Headaches

If your child experiences recurring headaches, chances are that your kid is experiencing eye strain. This is also accompanied by regular squinting since children can’t see objects at a distance or are having difficulty when reading. This happens if your eyes can’t refract light properly. Some refractive issues include farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism.
