What is vision therapy? Vision therapy is the science of achieving clear and comfortable vision. Vision Therapy is a customized treatment program designed to improve visual skills and retrain the visual system. Vision therapy helps to treat learning and reading problems when the words on a page start to go a little bit blurry or double, or your child starts skipping lines excessively when they read vision therapy can help to correct these issues and boost reading performance. It is also very effective in helping to treat lazy eyes by strengthening the lazy eye and training the two eyes to work together as a team.
Vision therapy treats problems related to brain injuries or surgeries, helping to alleviate headaches, double vision and balance issues. And lastly, it is helpful to train poor vision skills as a result of developmental delays such as cortical visual impairment or autism spectrum disorder.
Vision therapy can be likened to physical therapy for the eyes and for the brain. We use fun exercises, special glasses and computer games to help build vision and learning skills in both children and adults. We love doing vision therapy here at Insight Vision Center Optometry because we get so excited every day to see our patients succeed by helping to improve their vision. We have helped patients learn to love to read again, fixed their lazy eye without surgery and returned to work after brain injury. Vision therapy is more than just fixing vision to us. It’s about changing lives.
