The opportunity to serve and uplift communities through eye care has long been a part of Insight Vision Center Optometry’s mission. Recently, Dr. Schramm embarked on a medical mission to Armenia, where he introduced scleral lenses—a transformative tool in vision care—to local optometrists for the first time. This initiative brings new hope to countless individuals and is poised to make an impactful difference in the prevention of blindness.
The Journey to Armenia
Armenia is a beautiful country with a strong culture and a history of resilience. However, access to advanced eye care technology, such as scleral lenses, has been limited. Dr. Schramm’s mission trip, therefore, was a significant milestone. Collaborating with Armenian optometrists, he shared his knowledge on the application and benefits of scleral lenses for patients with complex vision issues, particularly those that standard lenses cannot adequately address.
The Importance of Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses are larger, gas-permeable contact lenses that rest on the sclera (the white part of the eye) rather than directly on the cornea. This design offers an alternative for patients with irregular corneas, severe dry eye, and other complex conditions. By introducing these lenses to Armenian optometrists, Dr. Schramm is helping pave the way for effective solutions in cases that were previously challenging to treat.
Preventing Blindness, One Step at a Time
Preventable blindness remains a global concern, affecting millions. In Armenia, Dr. Schramm’s work could open doors to new treatments, empowering local optometrists with tools and training to address advanced eye conditions. This mission aligns with Insight Vision Center Optometry’s commitment to helping communities prevent blindness and achieve better eye health.
Looking Ahead
As Dr. Schramm concludes this pioneering mission, Insight Vision Center Optometry remains dedicated to its vision of enhancing access to specialty optometry services, both locally and globally. We believe that every community should have the resources and knowledge necessary to provide the highest quality of eye care.
