4 Questions to Ask During an Eye Exam

Before seeing your eye doctor for your appointment, it’d be a good idea to recall and take note of any recent issues with your vision. That way, you won’t forget to mention any of these complications during the consultation.

It also wouldn’t hurt to know the questions you should ask during an eye exam. After an eye exam, your optometrist is supposed to inform you of any issues with your vision. Still, you can never know too much about your eyes’ current condition.

Are You at Risk of Developing an Eye Disease?

You should ask your eye doctor if you’re at risk for any eye diseases. For instance, the risk of glaucoma increases with age, but it can also increase if someone in your family suffered from the disease or has diabetes. Remember: prevention is better than a cure – the sooner you make lifestyle changes to combat the risk factors, the better.

Is There Any Way to Reduce This Risk?

Your eye doctor can give you advice on how to minimize your risks. Eating a diet rich in vitamins C, A, E and D as well as zinc and omega-3 fatty is an integral part of maintaining eye health.

What Are Your Treatment Options?

If your eye doctor notices some issues with your vision, ask what your treatment options are. For instance, myopia or nearsightedness is a relatively common condition, but there are several ways to correct it like Ortho-k therapy, which requires you to wear contact lenses every night.

What’s the Best Way to Monitor Your Eye Health?

While there are certain signs that indicate your overall eye health, only an eye doctor can diagnose eye conditions. That’s why routine eye exams are a key part of maintaining your eye health.
