A Guide for Picking the Perfect Eyeglasses for You

With the wide selection of eyeglasses out there, it’s not easy to choose one that fits well and can be used for any occasion. In this post, your local vision therapy experts, Insight Vision Center guides you on how to choose the best pair for you.

Frame Styles for Your Face Shape

Round: If you have a round-shaped face, rectangular, cat eye and retro wingtip styles with bold, squared-off angles are best for you.

Square: Curved frames like oval glass, browline, round and aviator frames will look good on you if you have a square face.

Triangular: You should consider frames with a wider and bolder top like browlines, aviators and cat eyes. These frames elongate a narrow forehead and even a wider jaw.

Heart: Deep-based frames as well as pairs wider than your eyebrows are perfect for a heart-shaped face. Aviators, cat eyes and retro wingtip glasses are great options.

Oval: You’re lucky if you have this face shape because it fits most frames as your features have symmetry and balance.

Frame Sizing

Consider the proportions of your face when selecting frames. The width of the frame should be the same as the width of your face. At least half of your eyebrows should be visible above the frames.

The distance between the corner of the eye and the edge of the lens must be the same on both sides.

Your eyes should occupy the upper half of the lens while the bottom of the eyes should barely reach the vertical midpoint of the lens. If your glasses are sliding down your nose, have the temples bent to secure their position. The frame should balance the top and bottom of your face. Vision therapy specialists like Insight Vision Center can help you select glasses that are a perfect fit.

Find the Right Color

It’s also important to match your skin tone with your frame color. If you have a pink undertone, cool-toned frames like silver, gray, blue, silver and clear will bring out your rosy complexion. For neutral skin types, you may try just about any shade from the neutrals to the daring and playful ones. Tortoise, brown, red, orange, gold, yellow and even black looks good on warm skin tones.
